For my report I am doing the African American customs. The African-Americans have this custom about jumping over a broomstick. The broomstick is a symbol for hearth. The married couple usually jumps over the broom at the end of the marriage. When they jump over the broom that means that they are making all the evil spirits go away and all the mistakes they have done in the past just disappear. So its like they are getting a new life. Almost 2/3 of the African-American couples that have got married jump over a broomstick. But African-Americans are not the only people that have that tradition. Europe also has this tradition. But there tradition is a little different from African-Americans tradition. African-Americans music that they play at a wedding varies from the couple that is getting married. So if the person or persons likes country then they will play country at there wedding. If they like rap then they will play rap at there wedding. Just like any other wedding you go to no matter what religion they are every new couple wants a wedding present. So if you go to somebody’s wedding you better take a present, because they are expecting one.

Israel has two official languages and The USA doesn’t have an official language. The USA military is the most powerful in the world and Israel is most powerful in the Middle East. The official religion in Israel is Judaism and is not Christian like most of the U.S.. The Jewish people live in the year 5767 not in 2007 like the U.S. The Israeli army is the most highly trained army in the world. The country is only 59 years old. There are only nine countries in the world that have nuclear weapons and Israel is one of them.
After the couple exchange vows, they take pictures of them two and the rest of the wedding people. Then they have a little party or known as a reception. The guests have cocktails and food. At the church they sit together in two red velvet chairs with a silk canopy, which is to be known as carre. After the ceremony they are off to the reception where they use many traditions to celebrate. They then are allowed to go home finally after a long night of partying and the people at the wedding then follow and bang pots and pans outside the home.

Weddings are a long and boring process. Mostly everyone gets married though. I plan on getting married in fact I’m engaged. My fiancée (the person I’m engaged to) is wonderful. And she wants to have a long, expensive wedding. The long part I’m not looking forward to, and I’m not looking forward to the expensive part either, but whatever makes her happy I can do. Hi I saw that most of you wrote about weedings in the USA. I figured out perhaps you would like to know about weddings in Israel. Well In Israel most of the weddings are with a religious ceremony(Jewish). There is a Rabbi who marries the couple with certain blessings in Hebrew. The groom has to break a glass in order to confirm the wedding ceremony and it all takes place under a sort of canopy. Then the happy couple start the celebration. There's usually lots of food, dancing, good music and loads of happiness. Everybody always enjoys going to a wedding.
I decided to write about a tradition we have here in Israel. When a young man reaches to the age of 18, and its time for him to join the army, there is a tradition that he orginizes a party. He and his relatives celebrates the fact he is a grown up, and it is time for him to service the country and protect it. Usually its a small party, including the close friends and relatives. The idea of having a party, is to send the young man into his new lifestile as a soldier, in the best way there is.

Well to start of how are you? Me I am fine. Well my favorite tradition is 4th of July. On the 4th of July we all set off firworks. it is a beautiful night when all the firworks go off. Usually me and my family are all together grilling outside. On the 4th of July it is always nnice and breezy outside. THere are alot of familys that celebrate this day. When this holiday comes by you know, because of the joy in peoples attitude and how the sky is lit up at night.
Hey, My favorite tradition is the 4th of July. I like it so much because all of my family comes to my house to celebrate. We usually eat hamburgers and hotdogs. When it getrs almost dark we will set off sparkler, and little things like that. Then as the night goes on we set off the big fireworks. My favorite Holiday is christmas. I love getting presents and the feeling of everyone being happy. My mom is jewish but she still celebrates Christmas for me.

since most of you wrote about weddings, I want to be original. I want to tell you about a holiday we celebrate now which called Purim. Purim is a holiday which originated in the bible. It is celebrated because of the victory of the Jewish people. The tradition of this holiday is to have fun. Everybody dresses up, exchange candy, and party.
My favorite tradition is the Kidosh we do on Friday night. Kidosh is a prey. We do the Kidosh with a glass of wine and two breads. I like this tradition because all the family sit together and eat together. The tradition reminds me that I am Jewish also, like I said before, all the family get together and tell each other what the have done this week.
Halloween is a tradition been around for awhile my family we used to get costumes and go out and trick or treat but were older know so we dont go anymore because there so much that goes on candy isn't really safe anymore

I did the project about Bar Mitzva. Bar Mitzva is a Jewish tradition about a kid becomming a man. At the age of 13 the kid goes and reads from the Tora (the holy book for us) infront of his family and the people that come to the Sinagog. After the reading there's a big celebration and a party. Hi, In our tradtions project we researched Halloween and Trick or Treating. We compared Halloween to one of our customs which is Purim because we thought they have similiar aspects. On Purim, as Halloween, we dress up and give out a "Misloach Manot" which is basket full with goods and treats.In our project we had to write what are the differences between Halloween and Purim. I did my project about Mardi Gras. I started it thinking about the big celebration in New Orleans, but as I researched it more I discovered it goes a lot further than Louisiana. Many other events I heard of like the Rio de Janeiro Carnaval and Fastnacht (celebrated in German speaking parts of Europe) and Mardi Gras are all related in bigger holiday called Carnival. From what I understood, Carnival is basically a holiday season, and every region (that practices Christian customs) celebrates a Carnival installment according to it's culture and traditions. Mardi Gras is celebrated in the last day of Carnival, meaning one day before Ash Wednesday, meaning a day before the beginning of Lent. Lent is another holiday I did not know about, in which Christians commit to avoid a certain pleasure of life, mostly eating meat or sweets.
In our comparison chapter, I chose to compare Mardi Gras with Purim. Purim is a Jewish holiday with a biblical origin, departed from the Book of Ester. It is physically similar to Mardi Gras, since it is also celebrated using big parades and involves wearing costumes. It is more similar to Halloween, as some of my class mated mentioned. I got to the conclusion that there is no real Mardi Gras in Israel, as there's no second Mardi Gras outside New Orleans. Because of the nature of Carnival, it makes it impossible to compare it to a holiday celebrated nation-wide like Purim.
Dror and I did our project about Thanksgiving, a well known holiday. We researched about it, and found that in that particular tradition you're being grateful to God for the harvest he gave the people, however the one that should be thanked is Squanto the Indian, the one who actually taught the Pilgrims to grow the harvest. How can you get the harvest from God when you can't even grow it?
We also compared Thanksgiving to Shavu'ot, a harvest based Jewish holiday that is celebrated when you cut the harvest, exactly seven weeks after Passover, another Jewish holiday. Differently from Thanksgiving, on Shavu'ot you cut the harvest in addition to thank God for it, instead of just sitting at home and eating with your family.

Thanks giving is a tradition that dates back to when the pilgrims arrived to the Americas and were scared when they didnt see some one of their own race. The Europeans and the Indians well they started to get along even though they were killing each other. The Americans and Indians started to get along for a feast and the Indians decided to show them how to grow crops and goods. We took away the land and secluded them to their own tribes and own little section. We do not give them enough credit and forgot about the Indians and if it wasn't for them were would we be?

I agree, the Native Americans don't get enough credit. To me it almost feels like we have a holiday to celebrate that the Europeans came to America, took the natives land, killed most of them off by exposing them to diseases, and then enslaved the rest of them. I don’t feel that I should be thankful for that. The Europeans took advantage of the “Indians” and yet are glorified for it, witch I find hard to understand. I think that thanksgiving should be devoted to the Native Americans.
Hey whats up, Here in the U.S we celebrate halloween on October 31st. Its really for kids to dress up in costumes and walk from house to house and get free candy. For me Sence i am Indain (Native American) myself i did not for get the Indains. When i celebrate Thanks Giving i remember the white man comming to America and i remeber the impact it had on us Native Americans. you see once you realize you are part of the past, i mean your bloodline, it is impossible to take one side or the other, unless you dont like part of your bloodline. I did reasearch on the white man's crossing over from England till now, when i was younger, and i didnt like what i found out. I found out how we Native Americans were treated, and what the whiten man did to us Native Americans. Honestly it made me mad that white men could do these things.
We Native Americans founght, but when we fought we fought for safty and for honor. Not to mention for protection of our land. We didnt fight for greed or revenge.

Weddings are a long and boring process. Mostly everyone gets married though. I plan on getting married in fact I’m engaged. My fiancée (the person I’m engaged to) is wonderful. And she wants to have a long, expensive wedding. The long part I’m not looking forward to, and I’m not looking forward to the expensive part either, but whatever makes her happy I can do. Do you understand? (Not to be rude). I don’t know maybe being part of the wedding might be a little bit more fun then just watching it.

My group and I decided to study Kwanzaa, which is an African-American holiday celebrated at the end of December (the same time as Christmas). It's a new holiday, relatively speaking - it was first celebrated at the end of 1966.
Do any of you celebrate Kwanzaa? Things that seem natural to one person may seem unusual (I hope no one interprets this as having a negative connotation) to the next, and thus I'd really be interested in knowing what you think about it, and how it influenced you (if at all).
Hi I saw that most of you wrote about weedings in the USA. I figured out perhaps you would like to know about weddings in Israel. Well In Israel most of the weddings are with a religious ceremony(Jewish). There is a Rabbi who marries the couple with certain blessings in Hebrew. The groom has to break a glass in order to confirm the wedding ceremony and it all takes place under a sort of canopy. Then the happy couple start the celebration.
There's usually lots of food, dancing, good music and loads of happiness. Everybody always enjoys going to a wedding.
I decided to write about a tradition we have here in Israel.
When a young man reaches to the age of 18, and its time for him to join the army, there is a tradition that he orginizes a party. He and his relatives celebrates the fact he is a grown up, and it is time for him to service the country and protect it. Usually its a small party, including the close friends and relatives. The idea of having a party, is to send the young man into his new lifestile as a soldier, in the best way there is.
Kwanzaa is a celebration that is an African American holiday that is celebrated from December 26th through January 1st. Dr. Maulana Karenga founded the holiday in 1966.
Kwanzaa is a cultural expression that is paid to the cultural root of their descendants. It is based on a concept of harvest festival, traditionally it is practiced throughout Africa. The celebration is to bring the families and communities together for the "fruits" of their year's labor, and to give thanks.
Kwanzaa is a Swahili word that represents the first fruits of the harvest. Kwanzaa is a celebration based on seven principles, has special symbols, uses the Swahili peoples language, and gives the people time to share. In case you are interested the 7 principles are: 1) Unity 2) Be yourself 3) Work together 4) Work to help each other 5) Purpose 6) Creativity 7) Faith.
The symbols are:

3. seven candles (red, black, and green)
4. fruits and vegetables
5. corn
6. the unity cup
7. meaningful gifts for self development

Well to start of how are you? Me I am fine. Well my favorite tradition is 4th of July. On the 4th of July we all set off firworks. it is a beautiful night when all the firworks go off. Usually me and my family are all together grilling outside. On the 4th of July it is always nnice and breezy outside. THere are alot of familys that celebrate this day. When this holiday comes by you know, because of the joy in peoples attitude and how the sky is lit up at night.

My favorite tradition is the 4th of July. I like it so much because all of my family comes to my house to celebrate. We usually eat hamburgers and hotdogs. When it getrs almost dark we will set off sparkler, and little things like that. Then as the night goes on we set off the big fireworks. They are so beauitful in the sky, and thats why i like the 4th of July.
My favorite Holiday is christmas. I love getting presents and the feeling of everyone being happy. My mom is jewish but she still celebrates Christmas for me.
My favorite Tradition is Christmas, not only because you get presents but because you also get to spend a religious holiday with your family. I love seeing the look on my Childs face when he got presents last year on his first Christmas it was wonderful.

I want to tell you about a holiday we celebrate now which called Purim.
Purim is a holiday which originated in the bible. It is celebrated because of the victory of the Jewish people.
The tradition of this holiday is to have fun. Everybody dresses up, exchange candy, and party.
My favorite tradition is the Kidosh we do on Friday night. Kidosh is a prey. We do the Kidosh with a glass of wine and two breads.
I like this tradition because all the family sit together and eat together. The tradition reminds me that I am Jewish also, like I said before, all the family get together and tell each other what the have done this week.
Halloween is a tradition been around for awhile my family we used to get costumes and go out and trick or treat but were older know so we dont go anymore because there so much that goes on candy isn't really safe anymore
halloween is a day were we go out and get candy and dress up like things that we like. and i cant think of any thing else to say about halloween besides its boring now.

..... i was hiding under a blanket one year on a little wagon and my brother told the child to get the candy over by me and i jumped out yelling and the child jumped

As a tradition on Halloween anually we as a nation USUALLY allow children to dress up in a costume as any such character and receive candy from neighbors and such. Traditionally this is what is part of our culture. Some might disagree with this. Other people party and have fun on this particular day.

Older kids that are to old to get candy hand it out to little kids...Some kids go bag snatching from teens...But nobody knowss who you are becasue you have a mask on...That is Halloween...
I did the project about Bar Mitzva. Bar Mitzva is a Jewish tradition about a kid becomming a man. At the age of 13 the kid goes and reads from the Tora (the holy book for us) infront of his family and the people that come to the Sinagog. After the reading there's a big celebration and a party. My brother had his Bar Mitzva 2 weeks ago and tomorrow is the celebration.

I decided to write about the identical tradition that is celebrated when a girl reachs the age of 12 and "becomes a women".
girls usually don't have the ceremony which boys have befor their big party,where they

still there are a few girls that do celebrate this ceremony.
usually girls just have the big party! that includes lots of guests,food,music and lots of happiness.

In our tradtions project we researched Halloween and Trick or Treating. We compared Halloween to one of our customs which is Purim because we thought they have similiar aspects. On Purim, as Halloween, we dress up and give out a "Misloach Manot" which is basket full with goods and treats.In our project we had to write what are the differences between Halloween and Purim. For example Purim is a holday celebrated from the bible however Halloween is a holiday made by the people.

I did my project about Mardi Gras. I started it thinking about the big celebration in New Orleans, but as I researched it more I discovered it goes a lot further than Louisiana.
Many other events I heard of like the Rio de Janeiro Carnaval and Fastnacht (celebrated in German speaking parts of Europe) and Mardi Gras are all related in bigger holiday called Carnival. From what I understood, Carnival is basically a holiday season, and every region (that practices Christian customs) celebrates a Carnival installment according to it's culture and traditions. Mardi Gras is celebrated in the last day of Carnival, meaning one day before Ash Wednesday, meaning a day before the beginning of Lent.
Lent is another holiday I did not know about, in which Christians commit to avoid a certain pleasure of life, mostly eating meat or sweets.
In our comparison chapter, I chose to compare Mardi Gras with Purim. Purim is a Jewish holiday with a biblical origin, departed from the Book of Ester. It is physically similar to Mardi Gras, since it is also celebrated using big parades and involves wearing costumes. It is more similar to Halloween, as some of my class mated mentioned.
I got to the conclusion that there is no real Mardi Gras in Israel, as there's no second Mardi Gras outside New Orleans. Because of the nature of Carnival, it makes it impossible to compare it to a holiday celebrated nation-wide like Purim.

Dror and I did our project about Thanksgiving, a well known holiday.
We researched about it, and found that in that particular tradition you're being grateful to God for the harvest he gave the people, however the one that should be thanked is Squanto the Indian, the one who actually taught the Pilgrims to grow the harvest. How can you get the harvest from God when you can't even grow it?
We also compared Thanksgiving to Shavu'ot, a harvest based Jewish holiday that is celebrated when you cut the harvest, exactly seven weeks after Passover, another Jewish holiday. Differently from Thanksgiving, on Shavu'ot you cut the harvest in addition to thank God for it, instead of just sitting at home and eating with your family.
Since we couldn't find any information about it, we want to ask you guys a question:
Are the Indians getting the credit they should get when you celebrate Thanksgiving, or were they forgotten?

Well in our country we celebrate Halloween... Halloween is the funnest holiday in the United States...Halloween is not like Purim...Purim is from the bible where Halloween is from the people...Alot of people that really believe in the bible do not believe in Halloween...

Thanks giving is a tradition that dates back to when the pilgrims arrived to the Americas and were scared when they didnt see some one of their own race. The Europeans and the Indians well they started to get along even though they were killing each other. The Americans and Indians started to get along for a feast and the Indians decided to show them how to grow crops and goods. We took away the land and secluded them to their own tribes and own little section. We do not give them enough credit and forgot about the Indians and if it wasn't for them were would we be?
Halloween is celebrated with kids dressing up and getting candy. My mom is Jewish and celebrated Purim with my stepdad and little brother. there was a carnival at the synagogue and the kids dressed up and got candy. There was alot of food and the adults were drinking. How do you celebrate Purim there?
I agree, the Native Americans don't get enough credit. To me it almost feels like we have a holiday to celebrate that the Europeans came to America, took the natives land, killed most of them off by exposing them to diseases, and then enslaved the rest of them. I don’t feel that I should be thankful for that. The Europeans took advantage of the “Indians” and yet are glorified for it, witch I find hard to understand. I think that thanksgiving should be devoted to the Native Americans.

Here in the U.S we celebrate halloween on October 31st. Its really for kids to dress up in costumes and walk from house to house and get free candy. When i was a kid i liked it but now most teenagers and adults just have parties for halloween and hand out candy. Do you guys have any holidays or traditions like this?

For me Sence i am Indain (Native American) myself i did not for get the Indains. When i celebrate Thanks Giving i remember the white man comming to America and i remeber the impact it had on us Native Americans. you see once you realize you are part of the past, i mean your bloodline, it is impossible to take one side or the other, unless you dont like part of your bloodline. I did reasearch on the white man's crossing over from England till now, when i was younger, and i didnt like what i found out. I found out how we Native Americans were treated, and what the whiten man did to us Native Americans. Honestly it made me mad that white men could do these things.
We Native Americans founght, but when we fought we fought for safty and for honor. Not to mention for protection of our land. We didnt fight for greed or revenge.
so for me it is impossible to forget the Native Americans that lived durring the Crossing from England
